Stella's New Floor
Wait til you see this! It's really nice to sweep & mop after camping, so we are thinking no carpet in the renovation - we don't want to worry about vacuuming. And I have always pictured an espresso wood floors look and we're not really going to do wood floors, but we knew we could go with a linoleum or vinyl product. We didn't realize that there are a bazillion options out there!
I can't claim to know anything because Mike was the research guy that drove the RV to Lowes, Home Depot - talked to people, had them come out to the RV & see for themselves. A product like this is tricky because it's going to spend a lot of time in below freezing temps. That's such an odd thought when it comes to flooring, glues etc. Good thing we did our research & in the end, we went with the flooring from IKEA. No gluing - they're planks that snap into each other. Again, we're learning as we go & if we totally screw this up - we'll only be out $200.
Again, we need to just go for it - we'll see how this ends up!
The picture story:
Just gotta give you a review of what carpet was there before..
Prep the floor - - pull up the old carget & pad - scrape clean all of the glue, staples etc.
Jump ahead to our color options at IKEA..I'd show you all of the options at Lowes & Home Depot, but you can also just go look. They have WONDERFUL products & there are so many variables, you just have to weigh them all in & see what works for you. The stuff we liked at Lowes would be a special order & take a few weeks to get in. Well, we're camping in 22 sleeps so that's not gonna work! (look below - back to IKEA - these are great colors..I love, love the one on the right.)
Testing a strip by the cabinets. I'm in love...
Back to floor prepping...
This product didn't have the underlayment. So we (mike) laid that before the planks.
You staple gun it into place - YAY! We own a staple gun now, which will help me cover the dinette cushions!
This is the transition strip & so tricky...
This guy came out to tattle on his sis...
Wow - looks so good & it's totaly working. It was very meticulous as Mike had to make all of those little cuts around the cabinets. He did a stellar job - - SUCH a handyman!
DONE!!! It looks so good. I'm so impressed with Mike figuring out how to do it!
- Cabinet doors with new hardware are going back up
- I'm going to attempt no sew re-upholstering the table cushions (find slip cover for the swivel chair)
- Window coverings - - curtains, gingham, no sew roman shades from Pinterest
- Accessories in place
What would we do without Pinterest & IKEA? For the reals!
...15 sleeps 'til our first trip!
